please help [Aug. 9th, 2008|01:01 pm]

[mood |sadsad]

i picked up a stray maltese today. at first i thought he was a ferret cause his tail was so matted he couldn't move it and he wobbles around so much! i was near tears when he hobbled over to me. he still smells after 2 baths. was covered in fleas. i pulled off the bandaids (!?!?!?) and shaved his mats and took him to my vet to see what type of worms he has...whip and tape...so i need to keep him away from my dogs for a couple weeks. he has about 2 rotting teeth left and his tongue hangs out to the side since there is nothing keeping it in, his nails probably haven't been cut in a year they're so scary long! he may even have testicular cancer. one ball is huge and hard and the other one is itty bitty. and he is already following me around! poor trusting pup, i don't see how he can believe i was nice and came up to me on his own with the way he looks!. i really don't have enough nerve for another dog in need. my dog's health problems already keep my nerves on edge, but i couldn't let him wander around! so if anyone is in the cincinnati, ohio area and is willing to take in a very old, toothless and loving shadow please let me know! funny, i just lost my ancient dog almost exactly a year ago and now i have a new one.

please post this on craigslist as well as on spoiledmaltese.com you may want to see if there are any no-kill shelters that might take him or even a vet's office. small dogs, once cleaned up, are often desired. I wish I could help, but my maltese is too much an alpha-dog to do well with another, especially one needing more care and as a college student, I can't afford the costs this one needs and deserves.

I hope someone is able to take him in!!!

PS try taking him to a pet store that grooms and seeing if they'll cut the nails down for a discount or free as you're rehoming him, it'll hurt him to walk on them without being trimmed and it's a quick thing to remedy!

You are so wonderful for taking such good care of him, he must've known that you were a great person when he wandered up to you! I wish I could take him. I'll ask around and see if anyone I know wants an itty bitty doglet.
